There is so much talk in magazines, on the TV and in parenting circles about the many dangerous toxins that can be found in children’s clothing that it can be scary for a parent with a child. How do you take care of the clothing to make sure that your children aren’t exposed to these toxins? Is there something that you can avoid buying so that you aren’t buying toxic clothing? Luckily, there are a few things that a parent can do to make sure that they are minimizing their children’s exposure to toxins.
Here is an overview of some of the things a parent can do to make sure that they are eliminating the amount of toxins in their children’s clothing.
Wash All Clothing Before Wearing. Washing your children’s clothing before you put them on them can eliminate a lot of the toxins that are found in the dyes that are used on the fibers. It should be noted that washing the clothing will not eliminate all toxins.
Choose Organic Clothing. Organic clothing is made out of natural fibers and dyes and therefore does not contain the amount of toxins that synthetic clothing does. To tell if the clothing is organic you can check the label and see if it is listed as 100% organic. This is the only way to truly eliminating the toxins from the clothing. The clothing might not look as bright of vibrant but at least you know that the clothing is 100% safe for your children.
Choose Organic Laundry Soap. Even if you choose to use organic clothing you might be exposing your children to toxins by using non-organic laundry soap. Some laundry soaps contain harmful chemicals that can be absorbed by the body. When the clothing is washed with this type of soap it absorbs the toxins which can be directly transferred to your child.
