The media is filled with tons of stories regarding the many dangerous toxins that our children are being exposed to. There are toxins in their food, toxins in their toys, in their books and now there are toxins in the clothing that they wear.

Yes, you heard that right. There are toxins in children’s clothing. Studies have found harmful toxins in children’s clothing. That cute little pink dress you brought at the store for your nine month old probably has toxins in it. So where do these toxins come from?

The harmful toxins that are found within children’s clothing come from the very things that attract most parents to buying them, the colors. The dyes that most clothing uses to make those pretty vibrant colors are synthetic dyes that contain a wide range of harmful chemicals in them.

Now it might seem hard to see how the dyes on the outside of the clothing could effect your children but the dyes go beyond the outside of the clothing. Many clothing is dyed by soaking it for hours which causes the fibers of the clothing to absorb the toxins. The clothing then comes within close contact to the child’s skin which soaks up the toxins like a sponge.

It is a trade off that many parents must make, either have bright, vibrant colors on the clothing that their children wear or to not expose them to the harmful chemicals that can be found on those clothing. The only way to not expose your children to these harmful toxins is to choose to buy natural, organic clothing that was not made with synthetic dyes. Many experts tell parents to wash the clothing first and this does take some of the toxins away but it does not remove them completely and the child is still exposed to the harmful toxins.
