It is a very scary thought that the clothing you are putting on your child could make them sick. It is hard to believe that one of the basic essentials is being made and created with so many toxins and potential health hazards. Luckily, there are steps that you can take even with non-organic clothing that can ensure that your clothing is as toxin free as possible.
Of course the best alternative to leading a toxin free lifestyle is to buy organic clothing. However, not every item of clothing is made in organic and it is almost virtually impossible to never once purchase a synthetically dyed item. That is why there are helpful hints that can help you eliminate the toxins from the clothing that you purchase.
First wash the clothing. Before you put any of the clothing items on your child make sure that you wash them. Sometimes it is recommended to wash the clothing twice to make sure that all the toxins have truly been washed out. Even though washing the clothing won’t get the toxins out completely it will eliminate a large amount of them.
Second, make sure that you are using organic laundry detergent. Many parents do not realize that even if they are washing the clothing for toxins they could inadvertently be putting more toxins back in. Some commercial laundry soaps have harmful toxins and solutions that can cause adverse health problems in children.
Just remember to put all those clothing items that your child receives in the wash before putting them on. You never know how many toxic dyes have been used to make the clothing so it is better to be safe than sorry. Just remember to wash with organic laundry soaps and you will be able to create a safe living environment for your children.
